5 deaths now linked to flooding in Texas after Tropical Storm Imelda  3 Weeks ago

Five people have died after widespread flooding along the Texas Gulf coast from the remnants of Tropical Storm Imelda, authorities said Saturday.

Mark Dukaj, 52, of Florida, was found dead Thursday in his stranded vehicle on Interstate 10 just west of Beaumont, said Jefferson County (Texas) spokeswoman Allison Getz said. Getz said she did not know where in Florida he lived.

Texas Department of Public safety troopers said Dukaj's body was found in a 2017 Dodge pickup truck that had stalled in high water, the Beaumont Enterprise reported Saturday.

Getz said floodwaters had seeped into the pickup, but emergency personnel don’t believe he drowned. She said investigators believe his death is related to the storm and an autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause.

Four other people were reported drowned during several days of massive flooding, particularly in the Houston and Beaumont area. These included a 19-year-old man who was electrocuted while trying to lead his horse to safety through floodwaters in Jefferson County and a man who tried to drive a van through a flooded Houston intersection during rush hour on Thursday, authorities said.
